The headline here is refresh rate, and it holds all the way down the range: 165 Hz VRR on a 100 Hz native panel, at every size from 42 inches to 83 inches, with all four HDMI ports accepting 4K 165 Hz. Most OLED lines reserve their fastest panel for the larger screens. This one does not.
Behind the panel sits the NQ4 AI Gen3 processor, a generation ahead of the S85H, running 4K AI Upscaling Pro, AI Motion Enhancer Pro and Auto HDR Remastering Pro. Samsung rates the screen finish as Glare Free, its stronger anti-reflection grade, which matters in a room with windows behind the sofa. Ultra Viewing Angle handles the seats at the ends.
A 165 Hz OLED at 42 inches is unusual, and it is the clearest reason to choose the S90H over the range below it.

165 Hz, and no size penalty
Refresh rate is usually where a range gets thinned out at the bottom. Here it does not: the 42 inch runs the same 165 Hz VRR panel as the 83 inch, on a 100 Hz native refresh, and all four HDMI inputs accept 4K 165 Hz rather than reserving the fast port for one input. Paired with ALLM, VRR, Game Bar, HGiG and NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible support, it makes the small sizes genuinely useful as gaming screens rather than second sets.
Glare Free and the Gen3 processor
OLED has always been strongest in a dark room. Glare Free is Samsung's stronger anti-reflection grade, one step above the Anti Reflection finish on the range below, and it is aimed squarely at that weakness. The NQ4 AI Gen3 processor does the rest: 4K AI Upscaling Pro, AI Motion Enhancer Pro for fast sport and Auto HDR Remastering Pro, with Real Depth Enhancer and Color Booster Pro on colour and contrast. Filmmaker Mode remains for anyone who wants none of it.
Sound, smart platform and sizes
Audio specification changes with the size, so check the note against the model you are buying, but Dolby Atmos, Object Tracking Sound Lite, Q-Symphony and AI Sound Controller Pro are common to the range. Tizen runs apps and live television with Vision AI Companion, Now Brief and seven years of OS upgrades. Connections are four HDMI with eARC, two USB-A, optical out, Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, all on the set itself.

Worth knowing
- The 42 inch is the odd one out: 20 W two-channel sound with no subwoofer channel, FreeSync Premium instead of Premium Pro, and a 200 x 200 VESA pattern.
- Samsung lists the HDR engine as OLED HDR on the 42 and 48 inch, and the stronger OLED HDR+ only from 55 inches upwards.
- Energy class is not consistent with size: the 83 inch is rated a step below the 65 and 77 inch, so check the label for the size you order.
What’s in the Box
