Micro RGB changes the backlight rather than the panel. The screen is still LCD, but instead of blue LEDs and a colour conversion layer, thousands of individually controlled red, green and blue LEDs mix colour before the light reaches the panel. Samsung states those LEDs measure under 100 micrometres and claims Precision Color 100, full BT.2020 coverage evaluated against VDE certification criteria.
The R95H is the version with everything switched on. It gets the Micro RGB AI Engine Pro, Ultimate Micro Dimming Pro, Micro RGB HDR Pro and, crucially, a Glare Free anti-reflection screen that the R85H does without. The Infinity Air body is roughly 30 millimetres deep, bezel-less on four sides, and sound is a 70 W 4.2.2ch Dolby Atmos system.
The Glare Free screen is what separates this from the R85H, and in a room with windows on two walls that is the difference you will actually see.

What Micro RGB actually changes
This is an LCD television, so the pixels do not make their own light and cannot switch themselves off. What is new sits behind them. A Mini LED backlight uses blue LEDs with a layer that converts part of that blue into other colours; Micro RGB uses discrete red, green and blue LEDs, which Samsung says measure under 100 micrometres, and mixes colour at the source. Ultimate Micro Dimming Pro then decides how dark any given part of the picture goes.
Where the R95H beats the R85H
Four things separate them. The Glare Free anti-reflection screen, which Samsung says UL validated against the UGR standard, is the one you notice daily in a bright room. Then there is the Pro version of the processor and of the local dimming, variable refresh to 165 Hz rather than 144 Hz, and a 70 W 4.2.2ch sound system in place of a 30 W 2ch one. Twin tuners and built-in Zigbee and Thread come with it.
Sound, gaming and the wireless box
The 4.2.2 channel layout includes up-firing drivers for Dolby Atmos height cues, with Object Tracking Sound+ following the action and Q-Symphony pairing a compatible Samsung soundbar. Gamers get 165 Hz variable refresh on all four HDMI ports, FreeSync Premium Pro, HGiG, Game Bar and Super Ultra Wide Game View. The set is Wireless One Connect Ready, but that box is an accessory sold separately rather than something in the carton.

Worth knowing

- Samsung publishes no peak brightness or dimming zone figure for this line, so there is no official number to set against a rival Mini LED set.
