The DWK85DK60B is Bosch's Series 2 inclined hood, an 80 cm panel of black printed glass that angles up and away from the hob rather than sitting flat above it. That geometry is the point: you get the coverage of a wide hood without the low canopy that has cooks ducking. It suits wide hobs and open-plan kitchens where the hood is on show.

Extraction runs to 430 m³/h ducted on the normal settings, with an intensive step that lifts it to 550 m³/h when a pan gets away from you. That intensive burst resets itself to the normal setting after five minutes, so it cannot be left roaring. Controls are TouchSelect, a backlit electronic panel on the glass front.

Angled glass buys headroom over the hob, and the class A rating shows that a hood with real airflow need not be an energy drain.

Ideal For

Wide hobs

At 79 cm across the body, this hood covers a wide 80 cm hob properly, catching steam from the outer rings rather than leaving them to the room.

Open-plan kitchens

Black glass and a backlit touch panel make it look deliberate rather than functional, and 60 dB(A) on the highest normal setting keeps it civil in a shared space.

Energy-minded households

Energy efficiency class A with 43.8 kWh a year, and class A ratings for both the blower and the lighting, which is unusual at this level of airflow.

Key Features

550 m³/h intensive

Three normal power levels reach 430 m³/h ducted, and the intensive setting takes that to 550 m³/h for smoke, searing or a pan that has caught.

Class A efficiency

Energy efficiency class A, 43.8 kWh a year, with blower and lighting both rated A on the EU label. Strong airflow without a heavy electricity habit.

TouchSelect controls

A backlit electronic touch panel sits on the glass front, so speed and lighting are set with a fingertip and the surface wipes clean flat.

5 minute auto-reset

The intensive setting returns to the normal power level automatically after five minutes, which stops the hood running at full noise long after it is needed.

Filter saturation indicator

The hood tells you when the metal grease filter or the charcoal filter needs attention, taking the guesswork out of a job that is easy to forget.

2 x LED, 127 lux

Two LEDs give 127 lux at 4,000 K, a cool, bright light that makes it easy to judge how food is browning across the whole hob.

Why the angle makes a difference

A traditional chimney hood hangs flat over the hob, and anyone tall learns to stoop. An inclined hood tilts the glass upward, so the front edge sits higher and your head and shoulders have room. Bosch allows this one to be mounted as close as 450 mm above an electric hob, which is lower than most chimney hoods permit, and that closeness actually helps capture: the intake is nearer the pans while the sloping face keeps clear of your line of sight.

Normal running and the intensive step

Most cooking needs a modest airflow, so the three normal settings top out at 430 m³/h ducted and 60 dB(A). When something needs shifting quickly, the intensive setting jumps to 550 m³/h at 65 dB(A), then hands back to the normal level after five minutes. That automatic reset is quietly useful: it means the hood does not sit at full power for the rest of the evening because nobody remembered to turn it down.

Ducted, recirculating and the fitting details

Ducted through the 150 mm outlet, the hood extracts 430 m³/h normally and 550 m³/h on intensive. Recirculating with the DWZ1GK1U2 kit, an optional accessory, it manages 445 m³/h normal and the same 550 m³/h intensive, so the drop is small compared with many convertible hoods. Body dimensions are 79 cm wide and 32.5 cm deep, with height adjusting from 69 to 90 cm ducted, or 72 to 97.5 cm recirculating. Minimum clearance is 450 mm above electric hobs and 650 mm above gas.

How It Compares

Kitchen Need Bosch Technology Practical Benefit
Tall cooks Inclined glass design The sloping face lifts the front edge away from your head while still covering the hob.
Wide 80 cm hobs 79 cm body width Coverage extends across the outer rings, so steam from back and front pans is caught.
Something catches 550 m³/h intensive One press clears smoke fast, then the hood drops back to normal after five minutes.
Running costs Class A, 43.8 kWh Energy efficiency class A with blower and lighting both rated A on the label.
Wiping down TouchSelect flat controls A flat backlit touch panel on the glass front cleans with one pass of a cloth.
Forgotten maintenance Filter saturation indicator The hood signals when the metal or charcoal filter needs cleaning or replacing, so nothing is missed.

The Verdict

Strengths

  • 550 m³/h on the intensive setting, ducted or recirculating
  • Energy efficiency class A, 43.8 kWh per year
  • Backlit TouchSelect electronic controls on black glass
  • Intensive setting resets automatically after five minutes
  • Filter saturation indicator for metal and charcoal filters
  • Mounts as low as 450 mm above an electric hob
  • Washable, dishwasher-safe metal grease filter

Considerations

  • Recirculating installation requires the DWZ1GK1U2 kit, which is an optional accessory bought separately from the hood.
  • Grease filtering efficiency is rated class E on the EU label, so the single metal filter needs regular washing.
  • The intensive setting reaches 65 dB(A), noticeably louder than the 60 dB(A) of the normal power levels.
