Description
Bosch Series 2 60cm 4 Zone Induction Hob with PowerBoost
A 60cm induction hob with four zones, nine power levels each and a fitted 13 amp plug, so it can be connected without rewiring the kitchen.
The Series 2 PUG61RAA5B is a four-zone induction hob on black ceramic glass, frameless and surface mounted into a standard 60cm worktop run. It is the straightforward end of induction: touch controls along the front, nine power levels per zone, and a main on/off switch rather than a menu to work through.
What separates it from a hard-wired hob is the plug. A UK 13 amp plug is fitted to the 1.1 m cord, so the hob draws a total of 3.7 kW and connects to a standard socket rather than needing a dedicated circuit. The rear-left zone carries PowerBoost, lifting it from 1.8 kW to 3.1 kW when something needs to heat fast.
Ideal For
With a 13 amp plug already fitted to the 1.1 m cord, this hob does not need a dedicated hard-wired supply, which keeps a kitchen change smaller than it might otherwise be.
Nine power levels per zone, QuickStart zone selection and a single Quick Stop switch-off cover the basics without a screen full of programmes to learn.
ChildLock locks the control panel so settings cannot be changed, separate residual heat indicators show which zones are still hot, and a safety cut-out is built in.
Key Features
The rear-left zone is 18 cm across and rated 1.8 kW, rising to 3.1 kW on PowerBoost, which is up to 50 per cent more power for a fast start.
Two zones at 14.5 cm and 1.4 kW, two at 18 cm and 1.8 kW, each with its own nine-stage power setting and residual heat indicator.
The 1.1 m cord comes with a UK 3-pin plug already fitted and the total connected load is 3.7 kW, so no separate hard-wired supply is required.
Touch controls sit at the front of the glass, within reach without leaning over a hot pan. QuickStart handles automatic zone selection and Quick Stop switches the hob off.
The control panel can be locked with ChildLock, there is a safety cut-out, and each zone has its own residual heat indicator so you can see what is still warm.
Frameless black ceramic glass, 59.2 cm wide and 52.2 cm deep, sitting 5.1 cm into the worktop and asking only 16 mm of worktop thickness.
Induction without the rewiring
Bosch is explicit about the trade-off here. A higher-output hob comes without a plug and has to be installed by a qualified electrician; this one arrives with a UK 13 amp plug already fitted to a 1.1 m cord, because its total connected load is capped at 3.7 kW. That makes fitting far simpler, and it is the right choice for a lot of kitchens. It also means 3.7 kW is the ceiling for the whole hob rather than for a single zone.
Zones, power levels and boost
Four zones, two at 14.5 cm and two at 18 cm, each with nine power settings. The rear-left 18 cm zone is the one with PowerBoost, taking it from 1.8 kW to 3.1 kW, up to 50 per cent more power, for the few minutes when a pan of water needs to reach the boil quickly. The other zones run at 1.4 kW or 1.8 kW. Zone sizes are fixed, so pans are matched to the 14.5 cm or 18 cm rings rather than to a flexible area.
Living with the Series 2 hob
Day to day this is a deliberately plain hob, and that suits a lot of people. There is a main on/off switch, touch controls at the front, QuickStart for automatic zone selection and Quick Stop to switch off. ChildLock locks the panel, and separate residual heat indicators tell you which zones are still hot after cooking. What it does not have is a timer or a keep-warm function, so anything that needs timing is timed elsewhere. The frameless glass is surface mounted into a 56 cm cut-out.
How It Compares
| Kitchen Need | Bosch Technology | Practical Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Fast boiling | 3.1 kW PowerBoost | The rear-left zone lifts from 1.8 kW to 3.1 kW for up to 50 per cent more power. |
| No spare circuit | Fitted 13 amp plug | The hob plugs in rather than being hard-wired, with a total connected load of 3.7 kW. |
| Small pans | 14.5 cm zones | Two smaller zones rated 1.4 kW suit milk pans and single portions without wasting a large ring. |
| Families with children | ChildLock panel lock | The touch panel locks, so settings cannot be changed by a passing hand or a curious one. |
| Quick clean-ups | Frameless ceramic glass | One flat surface with no frame at the edges, wiped down once the residual heat has gone. |
| Simple controls | TouchSelect Basic | Nine power levels per zone, QuickStart automatic zone selection and a single Quick Stop switch-off. |

The Verdict
Strengths
- Four induction zones with nine power levels each
- PowerBoost on the rear-left zone, up to 3.1 kW
- UK 13 amp plug fitted; no hard wiring needed
- ChildLock, safety cut-out and residual heat indicators
- QuickStart zone selection and Quick Stop switch-off
- Frameless black ceramic glass, 59.2 cm wide
- Fits a worktop from 16 mm thick
Considerations
- There is no timer and no keep-warm function on this Series 2 model, so timing is handled outside the hob.
- PowerBoost is on the rear-left zone only, and the four zones are fixed at 14.5 cm and 18 cm with no flexible area.
- The fitted 13 amp plug caps the whole hob at 3.7 kW, which is shared across all four zones in use.
What's in the Box
- Induction hob x1
